These terms describe different supports or housing arrangements and should not be used interchangeably.
SIL
Support in the home
Supported Independent Living generally refers to assistance or supervision with daily tasks in a home, often with shared supports. It is not the rent or building.
SDA
Specialist housing
Specialist Disability Accommodation is housing designed for eligible participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. It is separate from day-to-day support.
ILO
An individualised arrangement
Individualised Living Options involves designing the supports around how and with whom a person wants to live. It is not 24-hour rostered support or the house itself.
More than one arrangement may be involved
A participant may have a housing or tenancy arrangement with one organisation and support from another. Ask who owns or manages the home, who provides support, which agreements apply and how conflicts of interest are managed.
Eligibility and funding are individual NDIS decisions. Terminology and rules can change; verify the current position with the NDIA and NDIS Commission.
