The right provider should be able to explain how support will work in your life—not only list services.
Ten useful questions
- Are you registered and currently able to deliver this support?
- How will you learn about my goals, culture and communication?
- How are workers selected, screened, trained and matched?
- Who do I contact when plans change or a worker is unavailable?
- How do you support choice, consent and reasonable risk?
- What is the price and what else might I need to pay?
- What are the cancellation, notice and travel arrangements?
- How are incidents, privacy, feedback and complaints handled?
- How will we review whether support is working?
- How will you support a safe transition if I leave?
Look for clear evidence
Ask for a service agreement, relevant policies in an accessible format, provider registration details and a named contact. Be cautious about guaranteed outcomes, pressure to sign quickly or unclear costs.
Your decision, your pace
Compare providers, involve an advocate or trusted person and ask for changes to the proposed agreement. An enquiry should not lock you into a service.
