About this support

How Homecare & Domestic Support may help

In-home support is practical help with everyday activities in the place you call home. The aim is to make daily life safer and more manageable while supporting your independence, choices and existing relationships.

Support built around your day

Every person’s routine is different. Depending on your goals, approved funding and our current capacity, support may include:

  • getting ready in the morning or settling in at night
  • personal care provided with privacy and dignity
  • meal preparation and safe kitchen routines
  • light household tasks connected to disability support needs
  • prompts or assistance with agreed medication arrangements
  • attending appointments, shopping or community activities
  • building confidence with everyday tasks.

Your home, your preferences

We ask how you prefer support to be provided, who you want involved in decisions and what makes communication work well. We also discuss culture, gender preferences, pets, household access, smoking, equipment and any health or safety plans that workers need to follow.

Worker matching

We consider support skills, availability, communication and personal preferences. A specific worker cannot always be guaranteed, but we explain changes and aim for continuity.

Building independence

Where it matches your goals, workers can support you to take part in tasks rather than automatically doing everything for you.

Clear boundaries matter: NDIS funding does not cover every household or living cost. We agree what workers can do, when support will happen and how cancellations, changes and feedback are handled before services begin.

Common questions

Can support times change?

Tell us as early as possible. Changes depend on worker availability, the service agreement and whether the requested support remains within the agreed scope.

Can a family member be involved?

Yes, if the participant wants them involved or they have appropriate authority. We still keep the participant’s rights, preferences, privacy and consent at the centre.

Supports must be reasonable and necessary, related to disability needs and included in the participant’s funding. The NDIA—not HelpAlong—makes plan funding decisions.
